We were very pleased to be asked to design an extension to this house built by the architect Norman Hunter in 1967. It is a classic horizontal structure with long span beams which embrace light filled interiors with floor to ceiling windows looking out over extensive gardens.
Our brief was to provide additional living accommodation and in particular provide space for the owners decorative glass collection. Additional height was required for some particularly tall pieces and the decision was made to drop the floor level with the new room relating to the old through a two way fireplace and bespoke shelving.
The extension continues the modular arrangement of the original building by adding two more bays to one end of the house. Careful detailing of the new building ensured that the size and profile of the new walls and windows matched the original whilst meeting current energy standards and building regulations.
