ZONE Architects have designed and managed the relocation of Edinburgh’s much loved Bongo Club to its new home in the arches under George IV Bridge.
The club occupies one of the arches and some of the disused storage space of the Edinburgh Central Library. The arches are grade A listed and the library B listed and have been used during the Edinburgh fringe as the Underbelly venue.
The project largely consisted of the sensitive introduction of mechanical and electrical services and the provision of fire escape routes to create a highly atmospheric club and performance space.
