Our Clients are keen golfers and gardeners and asked us to design a sunny and bright, energy-efficient house on a spacious plot on the edge of St Andrews. The house was completed in the autumn of 2025 and Zone are monitoring the peformance of the house and are seeing negative energy costs in the early Spring of 2026
The house is stretched along the north side of the site. Its linear form means all living and bedrooms look over the garden and will get the most of the sun throughout the day. More carefully framed views through smaller windows to the north and east will offer glimpses of the fields beyond. Overheating from the large areas of south-facing glazing is avoided through the use of solar control glass, a pergola and sliding louvres.
The house is designed to be calm with an emphasis on natural and durable materials. It is being designed largely to passivhaus principles with a highly insulated external envelope, triple glazing and MVHR.
