ZONE were appointed in late 2019 to lead the design of the restoration and extension to this small country house in East Lothian. Built in the 1740s the house has been much altered and extended but retains much of its period charm set in a couple of acres of parkland.
Our brief was to bring the original, principle rooms back to their original glory and provide a contemporary glazed garden room extension to provide more informal family space related to the garden from which the house is currently separated. We received planning and listed building consent in early 2020 and work is expected to go on site in the summer of 2020.
Part of the project will be to relocate the existing orangery and this will be sensitively taken down and rebuilt. A dilapidated dovecot will also be restored.
The aim is to restore the house at the centre of a maintained landscape setting and make it conducive to contemporary family life.
