Zone were appointed  to revitalise and extend a charming early Georgian semi-detached house in Edinburgh's Stockbridge.  The house has a long garden overshadowed by a two storey retail unit on the neighbouring plot.  The Architects saw an opportunity to create a much longer extension that might normally permitted and designed an enfilade of contemporary living rooms leading to a sunny and sheltered urban garden.  The extension matches the length of the retail unit.

The original house is being sensitively restored using traditional conservatin methods.  It is being insulated whereever possible and a lift inserted in former cupbpoards to provide accces to the upper floor.  The Georgian period character will contrast with the contemporary feel in the extension to provide a variety of stimulating living spaces with a strong connection to its garden.

Glazed green bricks are used to finish the exterior of the extension as a deliberate contrast to the weathered 200 year old stone of the original houses and to allow the building to blend into its leafy garden setting.

Planning consent was granted in July 2024 and work started on site in September 2024.
